Equine Educational Consultants, Inc. was created to provide an opportunity for those with special needs to experience the joy and motivation that horses provide just by allowing us to share their world. Churchill said, "There's nothing better for the inside of a man, than the outside of a horse" and that statement is even more true for those facing the challenges of a disability. Horses have an innate ability to connect with humans in a deeply spiritual and personal way.
I have a Master's Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I just retired from my twentieth year in public education where I was a Speech Pathologist at Fairhope Elementary School. I have worked with students from Pre-K to high school. I have served many roles over the years including Teacher of the Multi-Handicapped, Orthopedically Impaired, Resource/ Inclusion Specialist and Teacher of the Speech-Language Impaired. However, my true passion is teaching children affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders.
I have worked with hundreds of students with varying degrees of autism and have had the immense joy and pain of watching them make their way through the challenges of everyday life. The communication and sensory obstacles faced by these students (and their families) are so overwhelming that I find myself in constant search of any tool to make life more manageable and more enjoyable. I have been extensively trained in ABA techniques through Lovaas, Judevine and Teach. I am trained in a variety of Social Skills programs and OT therapies such as brushing and deep joint compression. I have remediated a wide variety of language delays and disorders on a daily basis while employing a myriad of motivational tricks...only to find that the single most effective sensory stabilizing, language eliciting tool.... is a HORSE!

No One RISES to Low Expectations!
Our therapy focuses on helping students improve Speech/Language skills, Social Awareness and Attention to task. Each lesson is constructed to help students achieve a specific skill in a fun, game like atmosphere. We have just completed a covered arena facility specially designed to allow for a variety of therapy activities. We also have a Sensory Trail that exits directly out of our therapeutic arena which allows students to experience a multitude of different sights, smells and sensations.
Lisa Austin, M.S. CCC-SLP has also joined our team! Both therapists work together as a team to deliver instruction.
